The Hare & Moon Gallery showcases work by over 40 contemporary established and emerging East Anglian makers. The offering includes jewellery and ceramics, framed and mounted prints, photography and original paintings, art glass, creative textiles, paper cuts and metal work, occasionally complemented by invited artists from outside the region and collectable 20th century studio pottery and glass.
Claire Knight opened The Hare & Moon Gallery in July 2014 to exhibit her original fine art paper cuts. Ranging in size and intricacy from individual butterflies to full landscape scenes, the subject of Claire’s work is very much drawn from her environment: the land, the sea and the skies of north Norfolk. The finished work may include delicately coloured collage and gold, silver or copper leaf. Claire's hand cut pieces are in high demand.
A natural progression from cutting paper has led to Claire producing some distinctive designs that are plasma cut in 5mm steel and hand finished for her by Mark Lattaway. Set on a neat oval base these designs sit perfectly on a windowsill or alternatively, finished with a spike, they look fabulous in any garden. Each design is produced in a limited edition of 500 pieces and each is hand stamped for authenticity.
Claire’s original passion was pottery. On graduating with a degree in ceramics from Farnham she worked firstly as an apprentice for John Leach at Muchelney Pottery in Somerset and then for two years with A. & J. Young at Common Farm Pottery in North Norfolk. For purely financial reasons this was followed by a twenty year career in commercial print. Finding herself now with a gallery next door to Anglia Clay Supplies and a fully equipped pottery studio, it was only a matter of time before Claire was back on the wheel and up to her elbows in clay!
2016 was a year of joyfully throwing and decorating pots for raku – quick, colourful, unpredictable, exciting! 2017 will see a more considered approach to developing a personal series of work.
